Rental Liability Insurance

Rental Liability Insurance
We have all experienced the sudden necessity of forking out more cash than we have or are happy to part with unexpectedly. Your car breaks down or you find you need to make a sudden trip across the country. Maybe your fridge or washing machine stops working and needs to be replaced. We all know that draining, stressful sensation that we get in these situations.
Take that sensation and multiply it by one hundred and this is what you might experience if someone should sue you. One situation this might happen is if someone should be hurt while in your home. If you are not the homeowner but are just renting, you should know that rental insurance will likely cover this cost!
Of course, renters insurance covers the cost of your personal belongings, but most policies also include rental liability insurance. This means that if someone should be hurt in the house or apartment you are renting, the insurance will cover the cost, up to your deductible.
Let’s say your child slips and is hurt in your kitchen. Your rental liability insurance may cover costs that come from that. Now let’s say it was a friend or someone else in your home that falls and gets hurt. Then let’s say that that person decides to sue you over it. Now we are bringing lawyers and a plethora of other expenses into the picture.
Your rental liability insurance will likely be the saving grace in such a situation. Without it you are left to figure everything out for yourself and come up with all the money to pay for it, as well.
You may be thinking that the chances of this happening are just so slim, it is probably not worth the expense. But remember, you can get rental liability insurance as a part of renters insurance, which will cover all of your possessions in case of many different types of peril.
It will also cover additional living expenses, up to your deductible. For example, if your apartment becomes unlivable, your insurance will cover the cost of renting a similar property up to a certain percentage of your deductible. This can be a major relief for you financially.
Rental liability insurance is something that you might find yourself very happy you have. On the other hand, it is something you may never end up needing. However if you purchase it as a part of a greater renters insurance policy you will still be paying a very small amount for protection of your personal property, but you’ll also have the comfort of knowing that you will not be responsible for the cost of a potential court case, should someone put it in their head to sue you an injury they might sustain in your home.
